Less than an hour from Tampa and St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Florida has an identity of its own. Art and culture abound here, restaurants are numerous, and there are shops and boutiques a-plenty. The dazzling skyline of the city is fronted by a string of barrier islands that stretch up to Tampa Bay. Each has its own distant personality, and all are worth a visit: Siesta Key is artistic and funky, St. Armands Key has tasty eateries and quaint shops, and Longboat Key is home to some of the wealthiest members of the community.

Use Sarasota Florida bed and Breakfasts as a luxurious home base in the city. Hop out to Anna Maria Island, where colorful cottages line the shore and the streets are sand-swept. Stroll through the historic Towles Court Art District. Dine in Southside Village then head to St. Armands Circle, where people stroll each evening, window shopping and people watching. Evenings may also be spent at the opera or ballet, the symphony or a jazz club, or at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, which books performances as diverse as the Moscow Ballet and Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Days not spent lounging on the beach or playing in the surf may be passed at Art Center Sarasota, which maintains exhibits and offers workshops. The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a calming and colorful place to unwind; and no vacation at a Sarasota Florida Bed and Breakfast would be complete without a trip to the John and Mable Ringling Center for Cultural Arts, which includes the state's official art museum and the Ringling Museum of the Circus.
