Jacksonville Beach is located on the coast of Northeast Florida, less than twenty miles east of the city of Jacksonville. The many amenities and cultural attractions of Jacksonville are close at hand, as are those in historic St. Augustine and Amelia Island. Jacksonville Beach Bed and Breakfasts are ideal bases from which to explore the whole region.
The area around Jacksonville Beach is rich in both history and natural wonders. The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve offers excellent examples of each. There are vast stretches of untouched coastal wetlands and artifacts spanning 6,000 years of human history. Visitors may learn about the Timucua Indians who lived in this area thousands of years prior to the arrival of Europeans, and the French, who tried to establish a foothold in Northeast Florida during the 16th century and are remembered at the Fort Caroline National Memorial. The Kingsley Plantation, on Fort George Island, reveals much about early plantations, slavery, and the politics of the past.
Talbot Islands State Parks are comprised of seven parks: Big Talbot Island, Little Talbot Island, and Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve; Amelia Island State Park, Fort George Island Cultural State Park, and Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park; and George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier State Park. All offer superlative bird watching, hiking, and boating. Kayak rentals are available for individuals who enjoy exploring on their own, and guided kayak tours are also offered. Visitors may fish, picnic, bike, or relax on beach. Trails lead to the coast, through the salt marsh or into a maritime forest. Travelers would do well to heartily partake of the morning meal while staying at Jacksonville Beach Florida Bed and Breakfasts, in order to have plenty of energy throughout the day.
