Gainesville is located in the heart of Northeast Florida, 60 miles from the Gulf Coast and 70 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Gainesville Florida Bed and Breakfasts are the ideal lodging choice for travelers wishing to visit both coasts of Florida. Yet Gainesville has many attractions of its own. It is home to the University of Florida, and has a strong arts community. Like many cities with large universities, Gainesville features a lively restaurant and cafe scene.

Thousands of people flock to the Spring Arts Festival each April and the Downtown Festival and Art Show each fall. The historic Hippodrome State Theatre and the state of the art Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts bring performers from around the globe to North Florida, while aspiring artists hope to be discovered at the Gainesville Improv Festival. The main facilities of the Florida Museum of Natural History are in Gainesville, alongside the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art.

Outdoor recreation is close at hand in Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, and the Lochloosa Wildlife Conservation Area. Large Ocala National Forest and Lake George is also close to Gainesville. Boat, swim, fish, bike, and hike in and these areas, or hop in the car and hit the coastal beaches, just an hour from Gainesville Florida Bed and Breakfasts.

The oldest continually inhabited European city in the country is on the Atlantic's Palm Coast. St. Augustine features an abundance of historic architecture and historical sites. On the Gulf Coast, Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park is accessible only by boat, and is a refuge for West Indian manatees, American alligators, and Florida black bears.
