When I recently visited the Palmer House in Lithia, Florida, it reminded me of the country days I experienced when my children were going up. Sometimes when you walk into a Bed and Breakfast you experience a feeling of, I’m so glad I came. I was fortunate to stay at the lovely Palmer House and received a warm welcome from the owners, Gail and Bob Palmer.  Every little detail of the Bed and Breakfast was well thought out. The color of the front door and the wreath that hung there was so inviting.   I was charmed by all the décor and the spaciousness of the guest rooms. Palmer House sits on 8 acres of land housing a beautiful gazebo for the Weddings that take place there, along with the screened outdoor pool, the enticing hot tub and the beautiful oak trees that give you a feeling of peace. You will see cows grazing in the pasture. I breathed in the fragrance of the blooming orange blossoms and smiled at the lovely flowers blooming as I walked around the yard.

Even though you feel you are in the country, civilization is just around the corner. Palmer House backs up to the amazing community of Fish Hawk Trails off of Lithia Pinecrest Road and the nearby restaurants are plentiful. Also, very nearby is horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking and all the pleasures of the country. What a wonderful place to spend the dog days of summer.

Lithia is located in Hillsborough County near Tampa with lots of shopping nearby. Disney, Adventure Island and the beaches are all within an hours drive or less.

Oak Park Inn Bed and BreakfastThe Oak Park Inn Bed and Breakfast can be found in downtown Arcadia at 2 West Oak Street.  What a charming and beautiful BnB to visit.  Arcadia, Florida is located at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 70, mid-state between Sarasota and Fort Pierce.  Downtown Arcadia is an enchanting district of historic buildings full of antique shops.  Pleasantly lost in time, Arcadia offers a pleasing escape from the hustle and bustle of life.

While there it would be worth your while to take the time to canoe down the beautiful Peace River.   The Peace River gently meanders through Arcadia with high, forested banks, low pastures and sandy outcroppings.  It’s not unusual to spot deer, alligator and a variety of birds, maybe even some wild turkeys.  Fossil hunting is a favorite of some as well.  Becky Bragg is the owner of Canoe Outpost, one of Florida’s most established paddling outfitters. She invites you to glide through the unspoiled back country and experience its quiet.  Swim, fish or have a picnic. Canoe Outpost-Arcadia (800) 268-0083

Arcadia holds several popular annual events: The Desoto County Fair between January 17 – 27, 2013;  the Watermelon Festival in May at the height of harvesting season; special events along with car shows and parades.  The tri-annual All-Florida Championship Rodeo will be held March 8 & 9, 2013.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, vendors from surrounding areas take over the streets with even more wares and precious finds. Tucked between the shops, you’ll have the chance to enjoy cafés, home cooking, a tea room and even an old fashion ice cream parlor, complete with homemade delicious flavors, sundaes and shakes.

If you enjoy a pleasant get-a-away and like to explore the country lifestyle, you’ll really enjoy visiting Arcadia and sleep well at the Oak Park Inn Bed and Breakfast. (863) 494-9500Oak Park Inn Parlor
