Port St. Joe is part of Northwest Florida's Forgotten Coast, a sparsely populated area with sugary beaches and sparkling waters. It overlooks the calm waters of Saint Joseph Bay and the St. Joseph Peninsula, nearly half of which is comprised of St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. One thing is certain - time spent at Port St. Joe Florida Bed and Breakfasts will be remembered.
The town of Port St. Joe is a quiet waterfront community with shops and a large marina. The town is situated on the site of the old city of St. Joseph, once one of the largest settlements in Florida. Today Port St. Joe Florida Bed and Breakfasts are an excellent base for exploring the whole Forgotten Coast, home to some of the loveliest Gulf Coast scenery in Florida.
Indeed, the St. Joseph Peninsula is said to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the country - sea oats dance in the breeze, sand dunes glisten in the sun. The town of Cape San Blas is the gateway to this narrow strip of land; its historic downtown area is a good place to purchase picnic items before a day at the state park. The farther out one travels on the peninsula, the more untamed and wild the environment - the tip of St. Joseph State park is a designated wilderness preserve. The only way to explore the final 7.5 miles of the park is by foot or boat.
Snorkeling and diving in St. Joseph Bay is superlative; colorful star fish and octopi inhabit these waters. Paddlers may travel miles in shallow water, skimming over fiddler crabs, bay scallops, and sting rays. In deeper water, dolphins frolic and leap. Indeed, travelers may be so enamored with the Forgotten Coast that they forget to return home.
