Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida. It is located near the mouth of the St. Johns River, approximately 20 miles from the Atlantic coast and 25 miles south of the Georgia border. Jacksonville Florida Bed and Breakfasts welcome business travelers and vacationers to this fascinating city.
There are literally hundreds of neighborhoods in Jacksonville, many identified by where they stand in relation to the St. Johns River. The Northbank Riverwalk features the Jacksonville Landing, an area with dozens of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. Across the river, the Southbank Riverwalk features a zigzagging wooden boardwalk and fantastic views of the Jacksonville skyline. The Friendship Fountain is the largest self-contained fountain in the country and a wonder to behold when lit at night. The Museum of Science and History is also nearby.
The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens sits on the West bank of the river. Even travelers not interested in art will want to stroll through the museum's formal gardens by the river. Also on the west bank is Riverside Park, one of the oldest parks in the city. The Riverside neighborhood is a National Historic District and features a good deal of historic architecture. Five Points is the largest commercial area within the district, and is home to the Five Points Theatre, one of the first three cinemas in the country to show sound films.
Many attractions await Jacksonville Florida Bed and Breakfast guests willing to head out of town. Historic St. Augustine is approximately thirty minutes south of Jacksonville and is a great destination for a day trip. Another good outing is to Amelia Island, site of the historic town of Fernandina Beach and Fort Clinch, a pentagonal brick fort.
