Bartow sits in the very heart of Central Florida, approximately 50 miles southwest of Orlando and 40 miles east of Tampa. Also interesting is the Mulberry Phosphate Museum, just outside of town; it's fascinating to learn where and how the majority of all the phosphate in the country is mined.

The arts are strong in Bartow. Each spring the Bloomin' Arts Festival is sponsored by the Bartow Art Guild, and a Caribbean Festival brings great food, music, and crafts to town in the fall. There are antique fairs during the holidays and free concerts year-round. The Bartow Performing Arts Series brings top theatre, dance, and music to the heart of Central Florida; and every third Friday evening of the month, Main Street is blocked off for Friday Fest - a fun-filled event with live music, food, and arts.

There is a good deal of outdoor recreation in and around Bartow as well. The Tour de Tow - a cycling tour across the Peace River Basin, through citrus groves, and around Lake Buffum, takes place each fall. The Peace River itself is a top destination for paddlers, and the Fort Fraser Trail is a scenic walking and biking trail.
