The oldest rodeo in Florida is held each year in Arcadia, in addition to two other annual rodeos. These Arcadia rodeos are a tribute to the agriculture and cattle industries that contribute much to the area's economy. The DeSoto County fair also takes place in Arcadia, as does the unforgettable Watermelon Festival, held each May during the height of watermelon season. In addition to these staples, there is an ever changing variety of arts and culture events throughout the year.

Many people travel to Arcadia Florida Bed and Breakfasts to be close to the Florida State Paddling Trail along the historic Peace River. Up and down the Paddling Trail are tiny islands, and numerous creeks create many interesting channels to explore.

Fossil hunting is a favorite activity along the Peace River, and many people paddle up river specifically to hunt for armor plates from the Glyptotherium species or an ancient horse tooth.
